I have one card of Sid Akins, from 1985 Topps.
Playing career: A member of the 1984 Olympic team, Sid Akins was drafted by the Rangers in the third round that year. However, injuries stemming from overwork in his days at USC kept him from the major leagues. He ended up appearing in 139 games in the Rangers, Braves and Cardinals organizations, posting a respectable career 3.14 ERA.
My memories: Only knew him from his 1985 Topps card.
Where he is now: He is the CEO of West Cobb Electric and the coach of the West Cobb Xplosion 16u softball team.
Interesting facts: Appeared in the movie Bull Durham. Cousin of Brewers pitcher Randy Wolf.
Google Autocomplete results: He is third when you type Sid Ak, between Sid Aki Blog, a Japanese music site, and Sid Akbar, a Sacramento karaoke enthusiast. There do not appear to be any other prominent Sid Akinses.
Coming up next: The next profile will be Jonathan Albaladejo.
