Player Profile: Joe Beimel

I have one card of Joe Beimel, from 2007 Upper Deck.

Playing career: Joe Beimel pitched for six teams, mostly the Pirates and Dodgers, from 2001 to 2011. A “LOOGY”, he made 567 appearances and only threw 587.2 innings. His best season was 2008, when he went 5-1 with a 2.02 ERA for the Dodgers.

Where he is now: After missing the 2012 season due to injury, he signed with the Braves in 2013. At AAA Gwinnett he pitched in 30 games, going 1-2 with a 4.36 ERA.

My memories: For some reason I thought he had been a Met. I was probably thinking of the 2006 NLDS, which as a Dodger he missed facing the Mets due to a cut on his pitching hand sustained at a New York bar at 2:30 in the morning right before the series.

Google Autocomplete results: He is first when you type Joe Bei, ahead of Joe Beige, a securities attorney in New York. There do not appear to be any other prominent Joe Beimels.

Coming up next: The next profile will be Andrew Beinbrink.

  1. I am a big Beimel fan. Super chill dude, that was also very kind to Dodger fans after he left the team. I remember him coming over to the fans in the outfield during BP and handing out some baseballs and signing some autos.
