Player Profile: Collin Balester

I have one card of Collin Balester, from 2009 Topps.

Playing career: Collin Balester was a highly touted prospect for the Nationals who did not enjoy much success in Washington, going 5-16 with a 5.17 ERA in 62 games from 2008 to 2011.

Where he is now: Traded to the Tigers before the 2012 season. In 11 appearances he is 2-0 with a 6.50 ERA, but has been in the minors since May.

My memories: He was one of the first baseball players to heavily market themselves through social media. He had his own website (now defunct), his own blog, his own twitter, and was highly involved with the mustache fad of 2010. Now that his career has not gone so well he seems to have eased off on a lot of the extracurriculars.

Google Autocomplete results: He is first when you type Collin B, ahead of Collin Baja, an actor. There do not appear to be any other prominent Collin Balesters.

Coming up next: The next profile will be Grant Balfour.
