How does one scan baseball cards?

As you can see from my previous post, I take pictures with a digital camera of cards on a table. I notice many other blogs seem to scan their cards directly. I tried this with my camera and got these beautiful images:

Does anyone know how to get rid of these purple dots, or am I stuck with them? If anyone can solve this problem, I'll send them 50 cards of the team of their choice. Otherwise, you're stuck with my inexpert photography. :)
