A Year of Topps Designs: 1969

Here are the baseball and football designs for 1969.

The baseball design is very simple, taking the round element from the '68 set and the team name style of the '67 set. Not a very memorable design, but one that I think would have been better received if the photography was better. In football, backgrounds were removed in favor of a single solid color. The player's initials are in a different color for some reason.

As for the rest of the sets, this will go quick. I messed up with basketball and hockey, and covered them in the 1970 post. And I also covered the Man on the Moon set in that post, though the first series of that set was actually 1969. There was a Planet of the Apes set, but that design was later re-used in 1975, and I covered that set there. If you want to see them again, go to 1970 or 1975.

Other than a Wacky Packages, that leaves just one more set for 1969. The Mod Squad had a mod look with it's blue and purple animal print. By the '80s or '90s this would have been cliche, but I imagine it was still pretty fresh-looking in 1969.
