Player Profile: Joe Borowski

I have seven cards of Joe Borowski. This one is from 2008 Topps.

Playing career: Joe Borowski made his big league debut with the Orioles in 1995, and pitched briefly for the Braves and Yankees in the late 1990s. His career seemed to be over after stints in the Atlantic League and in Mexico in 2000, but he revived his career by signing with the Cubs, not only working his way back to the big leagues but winning the closer job in 2003, a job he would also hold for the Marlins in 2006 and the Indians in 2007. A washed-up ex big-leaguer at the age of 29 in 2000, he saved 131 major league games between 2002 and 2008.

Where he is now: An announcer for the Diamondbacks.

My memories: I remember him appearing briefly for the Yankees at the end of the 1998 season. I was quite surprised to see him resurface as a closer many years later.

Google Autocomplete results: He is eighth when you type Joe Bo, between Joe Bonamassa Tour, referring to a blues musician, and Joe Bologna, an actor. Another prominent Joe Borowski is Project Manager at Hyland Software.

Coming up next: The next profile will be Danny Borrell.
