Player Profile: Gary Allenson

I have nine cards of Gary Allenson. This one is from 1980 Topps.

Playing career: Gary Allenson was a backup catcher for the Red Sox from 1979 to 1984, and the Blue Jays in 1985. He was a lifetime .221 hitter.

My memories: His playing career was before my time.

Where he is now: Manager of the AAA Norfolk Tides of the Orioles organization.

Interesting stories: In June Allenson was ejected from a game after climbing the outfield wall in protest of a disputed home run call. The video has become an internet sensation. Here he tells his side of the story.

Google Autocomplete results: He is second when you type Gary Allens, between Gary Allan’s Wife, referring to the spouse of the country singer, and Gary Allan’s Tattoos, referring to the same person’s tattoos. There do not appear to be any other prominent Gary Allensons.

Coming up next: The next profile will be Jermaine Allensworth.
