Player Profile: Edwin Almonte

I have two cards of Edwin Almonte. This one is from 2002 Upper Deck MVP.

Playing career: Edwin Almonte was a minor league closer for the White Sox who was traded to the Mets in 2003 as part of the Roberto Alomar trade. Brought up to the major leagues, he gave up 14 earned runs in 11.1 innings. He bounced around the minors for a few years after that, last pitching for the Schaumburg Flyers in 2009.

Where he is now: Anyone know where Edwin Almonte is now?

My memories: I remember the Yankees and Mets both having players named E. Almonte at the same time.

Google Autocomplete results: He is first when you type Edwin Alm, before Edwin Almodovar, Caribbean Director for the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. Another prominent Edwin Almonte is a Central Florida black belt.

Coming up next: The next profile will be Erick Almonte.
