Wood vs. Wood #179

Last time, 1962 just got past 1987, 5-3. Who will win this time?

Tom Sturdivant poses in the outfield. I don't know which stadium it is - does not look like the Polo Grounds. I'm also curious about the sign, some kind of advertisement there. Sturdivant came up with the Yankees in 1955, and pitched great in '56 and '57, winning 16 games each year. However, injuries prevented him from further success. He ended up pitching for seven teams over ten seasons, going 59-51 with a 3.74 ERA. After his playing career, he had a long career in the trucking business. He died in 2009.

Bill Wegman casually reaches for the catcher's throw, letting it go almost past him as it settles into his glove. With the red fence in the background I believe this is Anaheim Stadium. That would make this game May 11, 1986, when Wegman took the loss in a 5-1 Brewers defeat. Wegman allowed four runs, all earned, over five innings, including home runs by Rob Wilfong and Reggie Jackson. Wegman would spend 11 years in the major leagues, all with the Brewers, going 81-90 with a 4.16 ERA. He is now a pastor in Ohio.
