The front: Simple headshot at Yankee Stadium, though it
seems to have been taken at a somewhat crooked angle.
The back: May’s career stretched back to 1965, leaving no
room for a cartoon or blurb.
The player: Rudy May was a solid starting pitcher in the
major leagues for 16 seasons. Between 1969 and 1980 he had eight seasons of
double-digit wins, mostly with ERA in the high 2’s or low 3’s. 1980 was his
best season, going 15-5 with an AL-best 2.46 ERA for the Yankees. Overall, in
535 games for the Angels, Yankees, Orioles and Expos, he went 152-156 with a
3.46 ERA.
The man: May worked as a marketing consultant for BP for
over 20 years. He is now retired, doing a lot of fishing and being active on Twitter.
My collection: I have 22 of his cards, from 1970 to 1984. I
would be interested in trading for 1965 Topps #537 and 1972 Topps #656.
I always forget about May. He was a good pitcher.
