The front: Interesting introspective pose, though probably
not one you could get away with on a baseball card today. I believe the
ballpark is Tiger Stadium, and the Mariner behind Simpson is Tom Paciorek.
The back: Simpson played under legendary coach Enos Semore.
More recently OU was coached by the controversial Sunny Golloway. When Golloway
quit in 2013, Simpson echoed many baseball alumni when he said “I'm so thrilled
that he's gone that they could hire a basset hound and it would be an
improvement.”
The player: 1980 was Simpson’s one year as a regular. He was
primarily a backup outfielder for the Dodgers, Mariners and Royals from 1975 to
1983, hitting .242 with 9 HR and 124 RBI in 605 games.
The man: He is now a radio announcer for the Atlanta Braves.
My collection: I have 14 of his cards, from 1979 to 1984. I
would be interested in trading for 1978 Cramer Albuquerque Dukes #6.
great dugout shot! Probably the only Simpson in my collection.
