Favorite player as a kid was Tug McGraw: Franco wore
McGraw’s #45 with the Mets. McGraw was the surprise guest on John Franco Day in
1999.
Might have been a policeman if he hadn’t been an athlete:
Franco lost friends who were police and firefighters on 9/11, and was outspoken
in his support of the NYPD.
Pet peeve is lack of respect: If you aren’t being respected,
John, it’s because you haven’t earned it.
