Player Profile: Michael Bourn

I have eight cards of Michael Bourn. This one is from 2007 Ultra.

Playing career: Michael Bourn originally came up with the Phillies in 2006, but became a star after being traded to the Astros after the 2007 season. He led the National League in steals in 2009, 2010 and 2011. He played well with the Braves after a mid-season trade in 2012, leading to a big free agent contract from the Indians. Since signing the contract he has been slowed by injuries, and at 31 years old without much power, the speedster’s best seasons are almost certainly behind him.

Where he is now: In 2014 he played in just 106 games due to injury and hit .257 with 3 HR, 28 RBI and a career-low ten stolen bases. He did lead the American League with ten triples. I would think it is pretty unusual for the triples leader to have only as many SB as 3B.

My memories: I heard a lot about him as a star speedster but didn’t see much of him being in the National League for most of his career.

Google Autocomplete results: He is fourth when you type Michael Bo, between Michael Boatman and Michael Bowen, both of whom are actors. There do not appear to be any other prominent Michael Bourns.

Coming up next: The next profile will be Rafael Bournigal.
