Player Profile: Matt Beech

I have two cards of Matt Beech. This one is from 1997 Collectors Choice.

Playing career: Matt Beech was drafted by the Phillies in 1994 and two years later made it to the major leagues. He struggled with injuries and ineffectiveness in his big league career, going 8-22 with a 5.37 ERA for the Phillies from 1996 to 1998. He never pitched for another major league team, but did spend another decade in the minor leagues for both affiliated and independent teams. Beech actually returned to the spotlight in 2007 with the Bridgeport Bluefish, when he was attacked with a bat by Jose Offerman after hitting Offerman with a pitch.

Where he is now: Co-Owner of the Baseball Academy of Rockwall in Rockwall, TX.

My memories: Only know him from his card.

Google Autocomplete results: He is second when you type Matt Bee, between Matt Beecher, VP, Global Business Development at Blizzard Entertainment, and Matt Beer, a brewery in Oregon. Another prominent Matt Beech is a professor of politics at the University of Hull in England.

Coming up next: The next profile will be Rick Behenna.
