2017 variety

Scott O. sent me another package, this time filled with a variety of 2017 cards. I have next to nothing from this year so all are appreciated.

My first 2017 Bowman. Looks exactly like 2015 and 2016. This will be really annoying in a few years picking up these cards and not being able to tell what year they are from.
My first 2017 Donruss. I'm still enjoying the Donruss designs from my youth returning to modern cardboard.
Got a few base set cards. I think I have about 7 this year.
In fact I have more Gypsy Queens and Heritages than base right now for 2017, which is kind of unusual. The Gypsy Queen cards in general are beginning to grow on me.

1993 Studio Bobby Bonilla

Hobby is home computers: The phrase “home computer” seems to have gone extinct somewhere around the late 1990s. Bonilla attended technical college for a semester due to his interest in computers, before signing his baseball contract.

Favorite sports announcer is Bob Costas: Costas was the announcer for the 1997 World Series, in which Bonilla hit a key home run.

Most prized possession is his ’92 Harley Davidson Fatboy: A Bonilla-autographed Harley gas tank went up for auction last year.

Might have been an electrician if he hadn’t been an athlete: Bonilla’s father, Roberto, was an electrician. According to several profiles of Bonilla he idolized his father and while he would help his father out on jobs when he was a kid, he never had a desire to pursue that path himself.

Pet peeve is when people don’t say “please” when asking for an autograph: The website Ultimate Mets Database always has great fan stories about interactions with Mets players. There are several stories on Bonilla’s page about him rudely refusing autograph requests, but another that said “I met him a couple times when he was with the Mets at road games though in Houston and both times he game me and my little brother autographs even though he look at us kinda sideways at first. He said it was because I said please.”

1993 Studio Scott Sanderson

Hobby is golf: Plays in golf tournaments around the US.

Favorite sports announcer is Keith Jackson: Jackson did national baseball games for ABC in the first part of Sanderson’s career.

Favorite player as a kid was Catfish Hunter: They appear together on a 1992 Pinnacle Idols card.

Most prized possession is his Bible: Sanderson is active with a baseball ministry called Unlimited Potential.

Might have been an architect if he hadn’t been an athlete: Not many athletes go into this line of work, generally a tough one to transition to in mid-career.

Pet peeve is fence straddlers: Seems like a bit of an odd pet peeve. Probably needs more context.

Where he is now: An agent for Moye Sports.

1993 Studio Chris Bosio

Hobbies are golf and hockey: Most of the ballplayers seem to have other sports as their hobby.

Favorite sports announcer is Chris Berman: Too bad Berman didn’t give Bosio a nickname.

Favorite player as a kid was Rod Carew: Bosio grew up in California so would have seen Carew regularly during his time with the Angels.

Might have been a law enforcement officer if he hadn’t been an athlete: The closest Bosio came to a law enforcement career was all of those Brewers Police cards in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Pet peeve is people saying “I can’t”: In a 2015 interview before Spring Training Bosio says “I can’t wait to get down there.” Gotcha.

Where he is now: Pitching coach for the Cubs.
