In the latest of my many trades with Night Owl, I sent him a few cards including a big name for his 1970 Topps setbuild. In return he sent a really fun variety of cards.
Starting off with some old Dodgers. Roebuck may not have the name recognition of Newcome or Furillo, but he's a '62 high number, so no common card.
Some 1977 Hostess cards that will go up against their Topps cards when Cake v Gum gets to '77.
Finally, a trio of newer cards that are just as fun as the vintage. I always love the unlicensed Broder-type cards, even more so when they are super-shiny like Darryl. And that '81 George Foster is my first ever Perma-Graphic card. I like the fake team logo - I think Night Owl did a post about them at one point. In person they feel like a real credit card, coated in plastic. It's easy to forget now, but in 1981 credit cards were still seen as something of a status symbol, and many people were unable to get one. So I guess they were "cooler" than they would seem today.
Voting for Rose.
ReplyDeleteYou should get a J.P. Sears card to go with your Roebuck.
I'm with Elliptical Man. That Rose is awesome.
DeleteBig trade! My half on the blog tonight.

ReplyDeleteI absolutely adore that sacred handful of '77 OPCs with different photos than their Topps counterparts.
