1976 SSPC Joe Ferguson

The card, in brief: The batting gloves really stand out in this photo.

Playing career, in brief: Catcher Joe Ferguson came up with the Dodgers in 1970 and had a breakout year in 1973, hitting .263 with 25 HR and 88 RBI, and leading the NL in hitting. However, he was soon supplanted by Steve Yeager, and had a career as a platoon or backup catcher for four teams, including multiple Dodgers stints, retiring after the 1983 season with a .240 average, 122 HR and 445 RBI.

Post-playing career, in brief: Ferguson was a major league coach and minor league manager for many years. He is now retired.

My collection: I have 20 of his cards, from 1972 to 1983. I would be interested in trading for 1977 O-Pee-Chee #107.

  1. Behind the plate for 715 but likely most remembered for his outfield assist from right field in the 1974 World Series.

  2. Don't remember any specific games or moments for Ferguson... but I remember him with that 'stache and the Dodgers.
