The front: Very serious-looking baseball pose. Looks like
the Yankee Stadium press box in the background.
The back: The stat line goes back to 1968, leaving no room
for a cartoon or blurb.
The player: Duffy Dyer was a good-field, no-hit backup
catcher for four teams over a fourteen career, most prominently as a rookie
backing up Jerry Grote on the 1969 Mets. Overall, in 722 games, he hit .221
with 30 HR and 173 RBI.
The man: Dyer was known during his career for his hobby of
flower arranging. Since his career he had been a long time coach and manager at
the major and minor league level. Since 2013 he has managed the independent
Kenosha Kingfish.
My collection: I have 11 of his cards, from 1971 to 1981. I
would be interested in trading for 1969 Topps #624, 1970 Topps #692, 1972 Topps
#127 and 1974 Topps #536.
