1981 Topps Dale Berra

The front: A very yellow card. I may be the only one but I like yellow baseball cards.

The back: Berra has said that hockey was actually his favorite sport. His dad, Yogi Berra, played street hockey as a youth.

The player: Perhaps because of his well-chronicled cocaine problem, Berra never lived up to either his father’s precedent or his own high-profile prospect status (he was drafted 20th overall in 1975). In 853 games with the Pirates, Yankees and Astros, he hit .236 with 49 HR and 278 RBI.

The man: Berra got off drugs in the 1990s and went into the construction businesses. Now with brothers Larry and Tim, he co-owns LTD Enterprises, which manages the brand image of their late father.

My collection: I have 23 of his cards, from 1979 to 1986. I would be interested in trading for 1983 Fleer Stamps #NNO.

  1. Brother Tim appears on a 1975 Topps card with the Baltimore Colts.
