1981 Topps John Henry Johnson

The front: An underused angle – the photographer shoots Johnson from below. The green background might be Fenway Park?

The back: Johnson and reliever Jim Kern (who had a four-inning save) outdueled Jim Barr and the Angels, 2-1.

The player: Johnson had a great rookie season in 1978, going 11-10 with a 3.39 ERA. He struggled mightily in 1979, however and was traded to Texas in June after a 2-8, 4.63 start to the season. After the 1979 season Johnson moved to the bullpen, and had several decent seasons as a middle reliever for Texas, Boston and Milwaukee. He finished his career with 214 appearances (61 starts), going 26-33 with 9 saves and a 3.90 ERA.

The man: Johnson seems to have kept a low profile during and after his playing career. Anyone know where he is now?

My collection: I have 15 of his cards, from 1979 to 1987. I would be interested in trading for 1979 Hostess #39.
