Jim Morris was Milwaukee's number one draft pick in 1983. He retired in 1989, having never gotten past A ball, and became a high school teacher and coach. Ten years later, he signed a contract with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays after he tried out for them at the urging of his students. He ended up pitching in the major leagues ten years after his first retirement. He ended up pitching in 21 games for the Devil Rays, striking out thirteen batters in fifteen innings. After his retirement, a movie called The Rookie, starring Dennis Quaid, was made about Morris. He now is an inspirational speaker with his own website, JimTheRookieMorris.com. He kindly shared his thoughts on baseball cards.
"I do not collect baseball cards. My cards all make me laugh because I had hair, and an awesome mustache."
Thanks!
