Jeff Conger, who played seven years in the Pirates' system in the 1990s, kindly replied to my query about his favorite cards.
"I don’t have any great stories about cards for myself or any of my fellow ball players, but I was an avid collector of cards when I was about twelve years old. I absolutely loved it! I think my favorite card is a 1958 Mickey Mantle in “Good” condition. I also have three Roberto Clemente Cards that are in “Excellent” condition. These two players were and are my favorite players."
Thanks, Jeff! For good measure, here is a 1992 Classic Best card featuring the fleet-footed Conger, who stole 133 bases in his minor league career.
