A Penny Sleeve for your Thoughts recently had an extensive giveaway as Jon has been thinning out his collection. I ended up with a lot of really nice cards. Each time the giveaway was posted I claimed a few cards, a lot of which were Yankees which no other bloggers like anyway. Then at the end of the giveaway I claimed a lot more which nobody else wanted. It ended up being a really nice package, with a heavy emphasis of vintage players on modern cards, but a lot of other good stuff too.
This was the card I was most excited about. 1970 Topps Super Mel Stottlemyre. I am really enjoying the Topps Supers more and more, so to get a Yankee was really terrific.
These three stood out to me for the focus on the fans, which I really liked.
Some various fun photos, too from recent Big League sets, and one of Carl Hubbell doing something to a baseball. (Smelling it? Kissing it? Drinking from it?)
Some new-to-me '80s TCMA designs, and a somewhat rare image of Mickey Mantle from later in his career, wearing a batting helmet.
So much shiny!
One shiny card that I like more than I expected is this Frank Assertive card. Nice shiny foil on the front . . .
. . . great Chicago skyline photo on the back.
I took this photo of all the other cards Jon sent, to show just how generous the package was . . .
. . . then I realized I forgot a whole lot more, including some more shinies!
Thank you Jon!
Nice Koufax. The 1959 Bazooka design is so simple and fantastic.
ReplyDeleteFunny thing about that Super, I tried to trade it to a guy on Twitter a few years ago who ended up flaking out. Then I offered it up for free on there and the claimer end up flaking out as well. In retrospect, I should of just sent it to you and saved my self the hassle of having to try and deal with those flakes.
ReplyDeleteJon had a great giveaway! You got some good stuff!
