Infielder Wes Helms played 13 seasons in the major leagues for the Braves, Brewers, Marlins and Phillies. In 1,212 games he hit .256 with 75 HR and 374 RBI. Now a coach for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in the Phillies organization, he kindly answered my questions about baseball cards.
"When I was a kid I collected baseball cards all the time. Would trade
with my friends and buy them as I got money. I used to love that they
put a stick of gum in the pack of cards. I loved Don Mattingly’s rookie
card. I still have tons of the cards I had as a kid. It is an honor for
me to personally have my own baseball cards. My kids love looking at
them and showing their friends."
Thanks!
