A Year of Topps Designs: 1966

1966 is the only year I haven't covered yet between 1955 and 1990, so it seems to be a good time to wrap up this series. 

It was high quantity, mixed quality for Topps in '66. The baseball design was simple, but effective when the photography was good.

For football and hockey, Topps went with the same design. If you like TV borders, these sets are for you. 

Topps leaned heavily on TV for their non-sport offerings in '66. By far the best of these was Batman, with full-color paintings and a nice bat logo.

Lost in Space got a bit of a logo, hard to see in the murky black-and-white.

Perhaps to capitalize on Batman fever, there was also a Superman set revisiting the old black-and-white TV show.

My personal favorite TV show, Get Smart, got a disappointing black-and-white set, without even a logo. No shoe phone? Still, I don't have any of this and might be interested in trading for some.

The Green Hornet got a full-color sticker set. There were a variety of colorful border designs, they don't all look like postage stamps.

The Rat Patrol got full color, but nothing else.

In the humor department, Comic Book Foldees could fold into nine different humorous pictures.

Finally, Monster Laffs was another of Topps's sets that recylced old horror movie photos with funny captions.
