Gavin of Baseball Card Breakdown sent me a fantastic package of vintage cards.
1970-1972. Three hall-of-fame pitchers in the '72s.
Lots from 1960s. I love Hal Smith's catcher's mask. Someone wrote "Jesse Gonder" over Joe Pignatano's name. Gonder was never a Dodger. Pignatano was a backup catcher for the Mets in 1962, and Gonder in 1963, so I guess to some kid that meant that Gonder had replaced Pignatano completely.
Finally, three awesome '57s. The famous Flying A ad for Tydol/Associated gasoline is prominent on Jack Meyer's card, and can also be seen on Mel Parnell's card. Happy to get the "two old 1950s guys in suits" card too. My first vintage commissioners card.

Glad these found a good home with you!
ReplyDeleteBig fan of the 1960 Topps design. If I weren't cutting back on spending... I'd probably go out and grab more hall of famers from this set.
ReplyDeleteWhy is the flying A ad famous?
