Hobbies are golf and chasing his kids: Butler recently
participated in a golf tournament to benefit the Operation Renewed Hope Foundation, which aims to end veteran homelessness.
At the time this card was published Butler’s four children
ranged in age from 5 to 11. Daughter Stefanie Butler is now an actress who has
been on several TV shows, including last year’s Stranger Things.
Favorite sports announcer is Vin Scully: Scully was the
Dodgers announcer during Butler’s career there, and for several decades before
and after.
Favorite player as a kid was Willie Mays: Butler grew up a
Giants fan in San Francisco and later got to play for his hometown team.
Might have been an actor if he hadn’t been an athlete: Butler
has one acting credit, in the 1991 Back to the Future animated series. I did
not know there was such a thing – I will have to check it out!
Pet peeve is laziness: Like many small, scrappy players,
Butler had a reputation for working hard.
Where he is now: Baserunning/outfield coach for the Miami
Marlins.
Studio was always a favorite for me. Like this Butler, the card backs could be an entertaining read. I came across one of these recently and wondered what Brett was up to.
