I have two cards of Ricardo Aramboles. This one is from 1999 Bowman.
Playing career: Ricardo Aramboles was a high-profile international free-agent signing by the Yankees. He never got higher than AAA ball, going 1-3 in four games. He was traded to Cincinnati for Mark Wohlers and did not fare better in the Reds organization.
My memories: He was one of many high-priced international free agent busts the Yankees have signed through the years, similar to Kats Maeda, Wily Mo Pena, Adrian Hernandez, and Kei Igawa (and to a lesser extent, Hideki Irabu and Jose Contreras). Still, the Yankees have sometimes done well in this regard, with Hideki Matsui, Alfonso Soriano and Orlando Hernandez, for example.
Where he is now: Believe it or not, even though it has been seven years since he pitched professionally in the US, Aramboles does not turn thirty until December. Anyone know where he is now?
Google Autocomplete results: He is eighth when you type Ricardo Ara, between Ricardo Araujo, a dentist in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, and Ricardo Arango, a corporate attorney in Panama. There do not appear to be any other prominent Ricardo Aramboleses.
