Mark Grant pitched eight seasons in the major leagues. His best year was 1989, when he went 8-2 with 2 saves and a 3.33 ERA for San Diego. Now a Padres broadcaster, he kindly shared with me this baseball card story.
"On one of my cards, I'm using Tony Gwynn's glove. It's a 1989 Upper Deck card. #622. I was a starter and wasn't pitching that night. The photographer needed a picture of me right before the game. I didn't have a glove with me. Tony was ready to take the field, and I said to him, "Hey T...I need a glove for the picture!" So he tossed it to me. If you look closely, you can see a "19" under the red circle "R". It's the only time I was a 'Gold Glover'!"
Thanks!
