1976 SSPC Jack Billingham

The card, in brief: The jacket under the uniform, buttoned up to the collar - that's a look you don't see anymore.

The player, in brief: Jack Billingham pitched for five teams over 13 seasons, including six with the Reds. He won 19 games for the Reds in both 1973 and 1974, and was a key part of the pitching staff that won back-to-back World Series in 1975 and 1976. He only got one World Series start but did have three relief appearances, earning a win during the '76 Series. Overall in 476 games (305 starts) he went 145-113 with a 3.83 ERA.

Post-career, in brief: He had a long career as a coach in the Astros organization, and is now retired.

My collection: I have 14 of his cards, from 1968 to 1980. I would be interested in trading for 1978 Burger King Tigers #6.

  1. I knew the name, but didn't realize that it was attached to a guy who had had so much success. That's a pretty good record that he finished with.
