Last time 1962 triumphed, 5-3. Who will come out on top this time?
Cleveland infielder Mike de la Hoz with a pose in front of the grandstand at the old Yankee Stadium. The Cuban utilityman played four seasons for the Indians and Braves, as well as one game for the Reds in 1969. In 494 games he hit .251 with 25 HR and 115 RBI. After his career he was a scout for a while, and worked in a concert hall for many years in Miami, where he still resides.
Padres outfielder John Kruk waits for his turn at bat on the card he called his favorite in his 2018 interview with this blog. Kruk played ten seasons in the major leagues, mostly for the Padres and Phillies. A three-time All-Star, in 1,200 games he hit .300 with 100 HR and 592 RBI. He is now an announcer for the Phillies and the owner of the Kruk's Philly Steaks restaurant chain in Florida.
This one is tough. On the one hand, the 1962 is clearly the more interesting photo. On the other hand, John Kruk, looking very much like the Dan Vogelbach of his time, which I suppose he was. And...can't say I like seeing Wahoo there. Vote to Kruk.
ReplyDeleteTough one but I love a good stadium background. I'll take de la Hoz.
ReplyDeleteMike, and it's not even close.
ReplyDeleteI like the 1987 Kruk a lot, but that 1962 is a classic. 1962.
ReplyDeleteKruk. Price Club and Costco had pallets of 1987 Topps, so I opened a lot of it that year. And Kruk was one of those rookie cards that was worthy of being in his very own stack.
ReplyDeletede la Hoz gets my vote - too many interesting details.
