Outfielder Jamie Johnson played six seasons in the Tigers organization, hitting .270 with 19 HR, 233 RBI and 84 SB. Now the owner of D-Bat baseball instruction in Monroe, LA, he kindly answered my questions about baseball cards.
"When I signed after the draft Topps gave me a contract and sent me 500 cards to sign. That was a very cool moment because it was my first official baseball card and they gave me a feeling like I made it LOL.
My favorite baseball card of myself is probably the one where there is a dual card with me and Garrett Richards. We were Oklahoma teammates in college.
I used to collect them all the time but as I got older and life became more busy I stopped collecting. But I have every card that I collected from when I was younger all in binders in a big plastic Tupperware case I sealed up."
Thanks!
That dual card is cool.
ReplyDeleteI can see how a pro prospect would feel like having a Topps(Bowman) card is a sign that they've made it, even if they dont reach the MLB. Very cool to hear these stories.
