One of the most popular cards in the 1975 set is Boog Powell calling for a foul pop-up. Where is it? It's difficult to say for certain, but I think this is Metropolitan Stadium in Minnesota, which was known for it's unusually-shaped foul pole. Powell played in one day game in Minnesota - August 11, 1974. He caught three popups that day. Attendance was 27,363, over half capacity, for Harmon Killebrew day. So why does the ballpark look so empty? My guess is that this may actually be from pregame warmups, as some of the fans are turned away from the game and another is walking to her seat.
Hmm, that seems a little late in the year for getting into the '75 set but I suppose it's possible.
ReplyDeleteBoog rules.
ReplyDeleteI always thought that photo was from earlier than 1974 because of the jersey boog is wearing. The orioles didn't have "baltimore" on their away unis in 1974 I don't think.
ReplyDeleteLooks like GCRL is correct. According to Dressed To The Nines, the last year that Baltimore wore the city name on the road jerseys was 1972. It seems unlikely that they'd have dredged them up after that, except maybe as spring training uniforms. I'm guessing the picture is from 1972 or ever earlier.
ReplyDeleteCool photo. Hadn't seen this card before.
