Continuing the theme of expansion team spring training sites in 1970 Topps, here is Expos pitcher Don Shaw at West Palm Beach Municipal Stadium. The Expos would share this site with the Braves until 1997. I was intrigued by the large blue wall in the background; I think I have seen it on other cards as well. The main stadium was part of a complex with three smaller fields behind right, center and left field. This wall was the divider between center field of the main stadium and the middle practice field, which is where this photo was taken. Presumably it was there for a "batter's eye" for the main field.
West Palm Beach Municipal Stadium was located at 755 Hank Aaron Drive (though the address would still have been Forum Way at the time of this card). The complex was torn down in 2002, and 755 Hank Aaron Drive is now the address of a Home Depot.
"The complex was torn down in 2002, and 755 Hank Aaron Drive is now the address of a Home Depot." - As much as I like Home Depot, the loss of baseball history saddens me.
