The front: McClure let’s his hair blow in the breeze as he
hangs out behind the batting cage at what I think is Tiger Stadium.
The back: There were two rain delays causing almost three hours of stoppage in this game, which the Orioles won 3-0 thanks to a
two-hitter from Jim Palmer. McClure pitched a scoreless inning that featured an
error, a balk and an intentional walk.
The player: Bob McClure pitched for seven teams in his
nineteen-year career, including a ten-year stint with the Brewers. Primarily a
middle reliever, he mostly started during Milwaukee’s pennant-winning 1982
campaign, though he was back in the bullpen for the playoffs. Overall, in 698
major league games, McClure was 68-57 with 52 saves and a 3.81 ERA.
The man: A long time pitching coach, he is now a senior
pitching advisor for the Twins.
My collection: I have 46 of his cards, from 1976 to 1993. I
would be interested in trading for 1976 Topps #599.
