The front: The darkness in this photo is illuminated only by
Forsch’s bright blue jersey.
The back: Forsch was converted to pitching in 1971 after
Cardinals farm director Bob Kennedy determined he did not have the physical strength to be a major league hitter.
The player: Bob Forsch pitched sixteen years in the major
leagues, fifteen of them with the Cardinals. In an organization with a history
of legendary pitchers, only Forsch threw multiple no-hitters for the team. A
20-game winner in 1977, Forsch went 168-136 with a 3.76 ERA in his career.
The man: A long-time minor league coach, Forsch died of
cancer in 2011.
My collection: I have 43 of his cards, from 1975 to 1990. I
would be interested in trading for 1983 Fleer Stamps #NNO.
