The front: Bevacqua is wearing a yellow uniform in front of
a yellow wall on a card with a yellow border. Pre-1991 Fleer this may have been
the most yellow card ever.
The back: Bevacqua had ten years of major league experience
despite playing in 100+ games only twice.
The player: Infielder Kurt Bevacqua played fifteen years in
the major leagues. He is best known for his home run that won Game 2 of the
1984 World Series, still the only World Series game win in Padres history.
Overall in 970 games he hit .236 with 27 HR and 275 RBI.
The man: He is now the owner of a car audio and security
company in California. He shared his thoughts on baseball cards – specifically,
which one he hates – with this blog in 2017.
My collection: I have 25 of his cards, from 1972 to 1986. I
would be interested in trading for 1984 Padres Smokey #2.
He had a great WS for the Padres in 84. As for his cards... my favorite has to be his 76T bubble gum contest card.
ReplyDeleteAside from the World Series home run and the bubble blowing, Bevacqua was a great bunter. He could bunt for a base hit with the best of them.
