The front: Here’s Bair “Suttoning” in what appears to be the
Shea Stadium dugout.
The back: That 1979 NLCS appearance was not a happy one for
Bair. He came in to a tie game in the tenth inning and allowed a run on an RBI
single by Dave Parker, saddling Bair with the loss.
The player: Other than a stint as a closer for the Reds in
1978 and 1979, Bair had a long career as a well-traveled middle reliever,
pitching for seven teams in 15 years. In 584 games he went 55-43 with 81 saves
and a 3.63 ERA.
The main: Bair was a minor league coach for many seasons and
is now retired.
My collection: I have 21 of his cards, from 1978 to 1990. I
would be interested in trading for 1985 Wendy’s/Coca-Cola Tigers #2.
