Where he is now: Doing this out of order for obvious
reasons. After his career he joined the San Diego police department. In 2003
Walters was shot in the neck by a domestic violence suspect, permanently paralyzing him.
Hobbies are water sports and jet skiing: He can no longer
enjoy these hobbies due to his sacrifice.
Favorite sports announcer is Harry Caray: Walters was born
in Maine and grew up in California. I guess he saw Caray on national telecasts.
Favorite player as a kid was Pete Rose: Another national
pick.
Most prized possession is his first big league hit ball: His
first hit came off of Mike Morgan at Wrigley Field in 1992.
Might have been in law enforcement if he hadn’t been an
athlete: Quoting a statement from the ILGIA recognizing Walters: “the man is an
inspiration to many, has been for so long and will always be a Hero among us.”
Sad story. Good guy.
