Once again the MTA rolled out some vintage buses for the holiday season. There seemed to be fewer on the road this year but the ones I did spot were mostly the older ones which was very cool, including one I hadn't seen previously. Here are my photos from 2015 and 2016 if you are interested.
Bus #3100 - the General Motors TDH-5106 was introduced in 1956. This particular bus was actually a demo bus (which may explain why it has stayed in such good shape over the last 60 years). This was the first air-conditioned bus in New York City. Fifth Avenue Coach Lines was a private bus company that ran in Manhattan, the Bronx and Westchester from 1896 to 1962, when bus operations were taken over by the city.
Bus #100. A 1959 General Motors TDH-5301.
Bus #1059, another TDH-5301, this one from 1961. The TDH-5301s were known as "fishbowls" for the shape of the back window. I hadn't seen this bus in previous years.
Those are pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to the bus posts every year. Very cool!
