Player Profile: Craig Breslow

I have four cards of Craig Breslow. This one is from 2006 Topps.

Playing career: Craig Breslow has put up pretty good numbers as a middle reliever despite bouncing around with six different teams, going 22-23 with a 3.20 ERA in 479 games.

Where he is now: He has pitched for the Red Sox since 2012. He struggled in 2014, going 2-4 with a 5.96 ERA. In ten appearances this season, he is 0-0 with a 3.46 ERA. In last night's Red Sox-Yankees game, Breslow came into the game in the top of the sixth with Boston down 5-0. He allowed singles to Gregorious and Ellsbury and a home run to Gardner, and was then removed from the game without having retired a batter. Boston ended up scoring five runs late to make the game close, so that home run proved to be the difference in the game.

My memories: I remember the first time he came up with the Red Sox there was a fair amount of hype, that he might be a big star. Though he hasn’t done that he is still a pretty good major league pitcher.

Interesting facts: He is the Executive Director of the Strike 3 Foundation, which raises funding for childhood cancer research.

Considered one of the smartest men in baseball, he graduated from Yale with a degree in biophysics and biochemistry and has been accepted at NYU Medical School.

Google Autocomplete results: He is first when you type Craig Br, ahead of Craig Brittain, founder of a “revenge porn” website. There do not appear to be any other prominent Craig Breslows.
