Playing career:
Catcher Pat Borders essentially had two major league careers. From 1988 to
1994, he was the regular catcher on the great Blue Jays teams that won two
World Series and made two other postseason appearances. He was steady but
unspectacular, though he was the MVP of the 1992 World Series with his .450
batting average. He then spent ten seasons as a backup catcher for nine teams
(including a second stint with Toronto and two stints with Seattle). In that
ten-year stretch he played in more than 55 games only once.
My memories: I
remember him being pretty high-profile, mostly because he was a regular on a
great team. Then I remember being surprised every few years that he was still
in the league with some random team.
Where he is now:
Head baseball coach at Winter Haven High School in Florida.
Google
Autocomplete results: He is tenth when you type Pat Bo, behind Pat Boyle
Comcast Bio, referring to a Comcast SportsNet reporter. Another prominent Pat
Borders is Group Managing Director at Resilient Ideation.
Coming up next: The next profile will be Rich Bordi.
