Dave Martinez was not that bad a fielder

I remember first seeing this card on the Baseball Card Blog. More recently, it was featured on Trammell to Whitaker.

Believe it or not, this is not the most embarrassing baseball card photo of Dave Martinez in the outfield. Check out the back of his 1993 Upper Deck. Yikes!

Actually, he was not that bad a fielder. He had a career fielding percentage of .986 which is slightly above the league average of .983 in 1992 (I picked a random year close to both cards). For some reason card companies liked to use embarrassing shots of him in the outfield. I wonder if it's just a coincidence or if he did something to anger the card photographers . . .
