When the player is pictured near the stands, one can see the fans in the background. And with the fans, you see the styles of the times in which the card was produced.
For example, here is a 1982 Topps Mike Easler, where the Hit Man is pretty much overshadowed by those giant striped tube socks worn by the kid behind them. I remember wearing socks like that . . .
Moving up a decade, here is Lee Smith high-fiving a toddler with an early 90's white-top fade. Vanilla Ice Jr.?
One of the bigger movies of the early 90s was The Doors, and someone wearing a Doors shirt is pretty prominent in this 1993 Leaf Kevin Maas.
Of course, the topless guy on the left is displaying a look that is never in style. That guy needs a man-siere!
