The bookstore at the University City mall was a B. Dalton. Originally started in Minneapolis in 1966, the chain reached a high of 698 locations in 1994. However, declining sales hit the chain hard in the 2000s, and Barnes & Noble, which owned the chain by this time, began liquidating stores in 2009. The final B. Dalton closed in 2013.
