I have one card of Rod Allen, from 1989 Fleer.
Playing career: Rod Allen briefly played for the 1983 Mariners, 1984 Tigers, and 1988 Indians. An outfielder with little speed or power, he only played in 31 major league games.
Where he is now: Two-time Michigan Emmy-winning announcer for the Tigers, and occasional Fox playoff games. Unusual for such a little-known ballplayer to become a successful major league broadcaster.
My memories: Hadn’t heard of him until recently.
Interesting stories: Son Anthony was just drafted by the Tigers. Another son, Rod Allen Jr., played briefly in the Yankees organization.
Google Autocomplete results: He is sixth when you type Rod A, between Rod and Staff Publishers, maker of Christian textbooks, and Rod Aissa, a television producer. Another Rod Allen was a singer in The Fortunes.
Coming up next: The next profile will be Gary Allenson.
Rod Allen is clearly an Affirmative Action hire. He was a better MLB player than a MLB color commentator. #FireRodAllen
